In this age of ubiquitous technology, it’s not so much about the equipment and systems you have in place at any given point in time, it’s really about the forward momentum of your company. And when it comes to momentum, Weaver Stone Company in Windsor, Colorado is in the driver’s seat.
“We love our technology,” says business operations manager, Eddie Daly. “There isn’t another shop in the area that is fully automated. We would like to be the first.”
For this five person operation the path to automation starts with creating the right systems. “I have an iPad that I take into the shop and to the job, as do Brian and Corbey Weaver, who are the owners of the business,” explains Daly.
“Wherever we are we can log-in and access Moraware to see what is going on with our projects. We also use our iPads and laptops to access other apps that help us run the business while on the fly.”
Apps like iSqFt and the Blue Book Network, two online services that Corbey Weaver uses to find and bid on commercial projects in the company’s market area. “We fabricate natural stone, quartz and a smattering of solid surface mostly for the residential market,” says Daly. “Corbey is working hard to bring in more commercial work. We really like our residential side – bringing in more commercial is an opportunity to diversify the mix of business.”
Small – And Proud Of It!
Two things set Weaver Stone apart from other fabrication companies in the area: The personal touch and their attention to detail. “One of the owners is in the home on virtually every installation,” Daly says. “You have to show up and take pride in what you do. It’s the personal touch. We cover the wood floors and put blankets down to make sure the tools don’t harm any of the furnishings in the home.”
As primary owner of the business, Corbey handles Sales and Marketing duties for the company, which includes reaching out to the commercial market. She is a female in a traditionally male-dominated industry, which gives Weaver Stone minority status. Brian and Eddie bring technical expertise to the table.
“Between Brian and I we have over 24 years experience in the industry,” he explains. “I’ve been with two flooring/interior design companies. Twelve years ago Brian was one of my sub-contractors, and that’s how we first got to know each other. The three of us are very customer-oriented.”
Weaver Stone is located in an industrial park in Windsor, where it occupies two units for a total of 4,400 sq ft. One of the units is set up with a small showroom, and makes efficient use of available technology. “We set up a 32” monitor in the showroom, where we can view granite samples and take the customer through the countertop process using Moraware’s CounterGo,” says Daly.
“It’s all about the customer experience,” he continues. “When we do stumble, we pick ourselves up and partner with the customer to find ways to solve the problem. We have found that some of our best customers are those whose projects might not have gone completely smoothly, but we stepped up to make it right.”
